Toshio Akiyama

Conductor


Born on March 26, 1929. He graduated from the Junior College of Musashino Academia Musicae in 1953. In 1956, he studied at the Music Department of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music as an exchange student. In 1961, he studied in the U.S., majoring in English at Columbia University and also at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. From 1969 to 2000, he worked as a lecturer at Musashino Academia Musicae for 31 years. He has taught and conducted the brass band of Omiya Technical High School, the brass band of Sakuragi Junior High School in Omiya City, conducted the Sony Brass Band (currently honorary conductor), conducted the Omiya Citizens' Brass Band, and broadcast NHK FM's “Brass no Hibiki” for 8 years. He has also served as President of the Saitama Band Association, Vice President of the All Japan Band Association, President of the Saitama Band Association, Honorary President of the Saitama Band Association, and Honorary President of the Japan Band Instructors Association. In 2008, he received the 32nd Academy Award of the Japan Society of Wind, Percussion and Brass Band. In 2014, he received the Shimoso Kanichi Music Award from Saitama Prefecture. In the same year, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.

Yuko Tanaka

Conductor


The recipient of the 2008 Gotoh Memorial Culture Award for Newcomers to Opera, a 2020 Rohm Music Foundation Scholarship recipient, and the 2018-2020 conductor of the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. She graduated from Tokyo College of Music, Department of Conducting. She received her M.A. in Conducting from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and her M.A. in Conducting from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. She holds a Higher Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. She studied conducting under Tadaaki Otaka, Junichi Hirokami, and Dominique Ruiz. She was a semifinalist at the Besançon International Competition for Conductors and the Scholti International Competition for Conductors. She has performed with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and other orchestras throughout Japan, and has made numerous appearances in the media, including NHK E-TV's “Classical Music Hall”, “La La La La Classic” and TV Asahi's “Untitled Concert”. In 2022, She has been a visiting associate professor at Nagoya College of Music since 2022, and is also involved in educational activities in her hometown.
